Congratulations Dianne!

Our very own Dianne Haley has won the prestigious Horwood Distinguished Service Award from URISA at the GISPro Conference 2017 in Toronto. This is an ultimate award given for long-term service to URISA and the profession. It is named after founding member and first URISA President, Edgar Horwood who was an early pioneer in the field of information systems for local government. Past recipients include Jack Dangermond (founder of ESRI Canada) and Barry Wellar (Emeritus Professor, University of Ottawa).

Dianne has been a member of URISA for more than 30 years and was elected as President in 2005. She is also a contributing member in many of its committees such as GIS-PRO, GIS-Corps, GIS Management Institute (GMI), URISA Leadership Academy, and Exemplary Systems in Government. Dianne is one of the URISA Alberta founding members and has held many different executive positions including Treasurer, Vice President South, President and currently Publicity. She is also a founding member of the GeoAlberta Conference, and part of the organizing and steering committee.
Her other awards include

• 1999 – Service Award (URISA International ) for her faithful service to URISA and its programs or committees and her willingness to take on challenges without regard to the potential for recognition.
• 2007 – Leadership Award (URISA International) for her exemplary leadership to URISA, creativity, innovation, and dedicated support of URISA program.
• 2010 – Outstanding Service and Contribution Award (GeoAlberta) for her tireless effort, contribution, and achievement in promoting geospatial technology and industry in Alberta.
• 2015 – Barbara Hirsch Special Service Award (URISA International) for her work on the Core Documents Committee

Dianne has a Master of GIS degree from University of Huddersfield, UK. She spent 21 years applying GIS at The City of Calgary and close to 9 years as GIS Coordinator with the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB), currently known as Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).

URISA Alberta Service Awards

Cindy post received the URISA Alberta Service Award in 2021 for her many years of service on the URISA Alberta Executive. Presenting the award are Carl Stewart, Teresa Chung, Dennis Chao and Charlene Nielsen.

Randy Williamson is the first recipient of a URISA Alberta Service Award. Randy received his award in 2014  for his many years of service on the URISA Alberta Executive. Presenting the award is Past President Cindy Post.
